Dionne Bromfield is Amy Winehouse’s 15-year-old god-daughter and protegee, and she is releasing her second solo album, Good For The Soul, in July. Her debut, Introducing Dionne Bromfield, was released in 2009 and included covers of Mama Said, Foolish Little Girl and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.
Maybe by looking at her picture you wouldn’t guess she is the holder of a deep and pretty fantastic soulful voice. But she indeed is, and she has already performed in Strictly Come Dancing when she was only 13 (!!!) with Amy doing backing vocals. She has also worked with Toby Gadd, John Paul ‘Bluey’ Maunick, Steve Booker and Paul O’ Duffy for the writing and recording of her songs.
Foolin’ is the second single from her upcoming album. As it kicks starts the drums reminds me of a slightly faster version of Amy’s You Know I Am No Good. Not to be taken this as a bad thing, Dionne showcases her vocal ability in a fun, instantly catchy pop tune with a hooking chorus I’m not foolin’ myself down/You’re the best teacher that I ever knew/I’m not shooting myself down/I’m watching, just learning from you.
Foolin‘ is out the 27th of June and it features Lil Twist, you can listen to it below.
PS: here’s a pic of the two ladies.
