Pop music expectations for 2012 have been conditioned by Madonna’s eventual come back from the moment she announced it. Gimme All Your Luvin’ is her new single, a collaboration with Nicki Minaj and M.I.A, and it is substantially different from the unfinished demo that leaked a few weeks ago. If the demo sounded like Beat of My Drum‘s poor sibling, the finished product would be its cool cousin. With a slick production, a catchy hook and effective lyrics, Madonna manages once again to create something for us to surrender at.
it’s also interesting who she chose to collaborate with on the track: while Nicki Minaj is a regular featured artist in a wide number of mainstream songs, M.I.A’s own sound differs completely from anything Madonna offers and stands for. It’s definitely odd to see M.I.A dressing up the way she does on this video, but unlike Nicki her contribution doesn’t feel redundant and it helps to build the feeling of the song.
What’s more important: Madonna’s record has a bit of this and a bit of that, but overall it’s not Katy Perry, or Jessie J, or Gaga, or David Guetta, or Pitbull. It’s simply Madonna, and we’re glad to see her back.
