From Tegan and Sara to Ke$ha: some great pop singles to enjoy this week!

Tegan and Sara – Closer

Tegan and Sara are kind of an alternative band, but they’ve wandered into the pop world more than once and always with success. I was obsessed with their Tiesto collaboration for ages and I sense another obsession coming with ‘Closer’, their new single. It premieres today and it has a really good, catchy chorus.

Ke$ha – Die Young

One Direction + Katy Perry + P!nk + the talking bits Ke$ha always does – the trashy vibe that was characteristic of Ke$ha’s songs till now = ‘Die Young’, aka. A TUNE.

A*M*E – Play the Game Boy

The biggest pop injustice of our modern era besides ‘Untouchable’ missing the Top 10 and the existence and success of Taylor Swift would be A*M*E’s new single, ‘Playing The Game Boy’, getting only 300 views on Youtube. Which is happening right now. So go watch/listen to it. It’s brilliant!

Lana Del Rey –  Ride

‘Ride’ is possibly the most heartbreaking Lana Del Rey track, and that’s saying something. It’s the single that introduces the re-release of her acclaimed album ‘Born To Die’, and it’s hauntingly beautiful, very melancholic and ultimately, very Lana.

Lawson – Standing In The Dark

Lawson know how to be effective in terms of releases. This time, their new single ‘Standing In The Dark’  is a longing pop-rock ballad with a dark, dramatic music video, so dramatic it even rains in it. It was about time there was a good pop-rock man band we could secretly fan-girl about.

Leona Lewis – Glassheart

Leona Lewis’ dub step track is so unironically amazing that it makes you wonder why she didn’t try this path before. She’s one of those artists that’s guilty of abusing ballads, or being too predictable, but with this track we stand corrected, it is an incredible dance song that many pop divas would have killed for.

Ellie Goulding – I Know You Care

Ellie Goulding’s new song is the soundtrack for the film ‘Now Is Good’ is a simple song, with only vocals and piano, and it is that simplicity what makes it so emotive. If you don’t feel like tearing up a little bit after listen to it, your heart is made of stone. That, if you even have a heart at all.

No Doubt – Push and Shove ft. Busy Signal, Major Lazer

No Doubt have dropped the video for their new single, ‘Push and Shove’, which I wrote in the blog about a while ago. The track is an absolute grower and the video is really cool and very No Doubt, with Gwen Stefani looking the best she has ever looked. EVER.
